"I basically grew up in my parents' clinic in Syria. My dad is a general surgeon and my mom is a OB/GYN. They were my first inspiration to becoming a doctor, just seeing their life and how they interact with their patients."
Ghaith

Ghaith Al Tibi is a first-year student from Damascus, Syria, where he grew up observing his mother’s OB/GYN clinic and his father’s surgery practice, which inspired him to pursue medicine. During Syria’s civil war, his family immigrated to the United States in 2013 although his parents later returned to Damascus. For Ghaith, becoming a doctor in the United States represents a tribute to his parents’ years of sacrifice. After living in Damascus, rural Georgia, Atlanta, and now the Bronx, Ghaith aims to bring his unique world perspective to both medical and personal settings. At Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Ghaith is involved with the college’s Muslim Student Association, participates in global health summits, and spends his summer volunteering in a medical clinic in the Himalayas. Ghaith has developed an interest in cardiology and nurtures a long-term goal (along with his brother, now in dental school) to one day bring their parents to live in the U.S.
