Cameron

Cameron Smith is a third-year medical student who grew up near the Bronx in Yonkers, New York. He describes his path into medicine as “unconventional” as he majored in communications and media studies with a concentration in journalism at Fordham University and minored in biological sciences. Coming from a family of nurses, Cameron nurtured the hope to become the first doctor in his family, yet he made it a priority to explore his other academic interests, as well. After completing a graduate program at Georgetown University in physiology and biophysics, Cameron decided medical school was his next step. At Albert Einstein School of Medicine, Cameron has been able to fulfil his desire to work with a diverse group of individuals both inside and outside of the hospital while coaching youth sports in his spare time. While Cameron was growing up, his father taught him the importance of employing a practical, hands-on approach to tackling problems; he drew upon this skill during his first surgery rotations. Long term, he hopes he can build on his manual and problem-solving capabilities by specializing in orthopedics or sports medicine.
